Showing 0 of 0 vessels
Matches the country of the vessel's MMSI prefix (AIS ships only).
Type comes from the vessel's AIS static report, which is broadcast every
few minutes — vessels count as “Other / unknown” until theirs arrives.

Layer downloads
Each layer is fetched the first time you zoom in far enough to need it
— nothing extra downloads while you stay at globe scale. The 1:10m
coastline is the largest at about 3.5 MB and only loads past 400×.
Vessels shown on land are usually
correct positions on a map that is too coarse: even at 1:10m the coastline
is around 1 km out, and river ports (Nanjing, Galati, Antwerp) sit on
channels that Natural Earth does not cut out of the land at all. Major
rivers are drawn as a nominal channel to compensate.
3D view
Every cone is a translucent mesh of its own, so a busy strait draws
hundreds of them — expensive in a headset and hard to read a
conflict out of. The default keeps the ones that matter.
10 min
Each vessel projects a cone as long as it will actually travel in that
time, so a fast ship gets a long one. Two cones that cross turn red.
Zoom
1:1
One continuous range from the whole planet down to standing on the
water beside a hull. The sphere becomes a flat sea automatically once
the curvature stops being visible — there is no mode to switch.
Controls
desktop — drag to look, WASD to fly,
right-drag or scroll to zoom, click the water to jump there, click a ship for its card.
headset — grip and pull your hand in to zoom,
left stick up/down also zooms, right stick moves, left stick click switches fly/teleport,
right trigger selects, left trigger sets a second vessel beside it to compare, A zooms to the
selected vessel. The M button dead ahead opens the in-scene controls panel.
None of this sidebar renders inside a headset — that is what the
wrist menu is for.
